Marketta: Φαγητό πικνίκ και κρασί σε μια σπιτική κουζινο-τραπεζαρία στο Σύνταγμα
Marketta: Picnic food and wine in a homey kitchen-dining room in Syntagma
By Georgia Papastamou, for Lifo: “Cute and stylish, Marketta will catch your eye as you walk by…Its sign says "Mediterranean salads, sandwiches and wine" and if you stand in the window, you'll see Erika moving around the inside, which looks a bit like a modern Parisian bistro, but more like a homely kitchen-dining room, stylish but warm and unpretentious.
Originally from Canada, the owner/cook/hostess of the shop has been living in Greece for the last 13 years, she speaks perfect Greek and for a few days now, at the four tables of Marketta, she has been offering something that has been missing from the center of Athens.
"I wanted to do something small…cold cuisine, something like 'picnic food', and find a way to incorporate Greek flavors into it. My mother is from Morocco and I have those influences as well. I wanted to combine all this and do something with freshness and Greek flavors, but a little different. I rely quite a lot on vegetables, but the kitchen is not exclusively vegetarian. It's a healthy Mediterranean diet."
